Bao Yuankai (b.1944), a Chinese composer and Music Educator. He studied flute and composition at the Attached Music School of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing from 1957 to 1962, and then continued his higher education at the conservatory until 1967 in music theory and composition.
Bao joint the faculty at Tianjin Conservatory of Music in 1973 and, beyond this job, he was sometimes invited to teach as a part-time or visiting professor at the Nankai University and Tianjin Normal University in Tianjin and the Nanhua University in Taiwan. Currently, he is teaching at Xiamen University as a specially invited professor. His contributions to Chinese new music has been recognized by many nition-wide governmental awards, including the life-time grant for honorable specialists, Golden Bell Award for composition, and the Best Chinese Musicologist award issued by the Department for Cultural Affairs. Currently, he is the vice-Chairman of the Committee for Composition of the Chinese Musicians¡¯ Association and the jury of national Golden Bell Award for musical compositions.
Bao's compositions include symphonies, chamber pieces, cantatas, musicals, sound tracks, and albums for children. Among them, Rhapsody of China, a series of symphonic works composed from 1991 to 2001, has been performed in 40 countries or regions in Asia, Europe, America, and Australia. Recordings of pieces from this series were made by Deutsche Grammophon, Philips, and Hugo Record Hong Kong.
Since 2001, Bao has premiered his Symphony No.1 and Symphony Suite Sketches of War . Meanwhile, his was active on media.
