Prokofiev's Suggestion Diabolique Op. 4. No. 4 is arguably the most difficult piece in the piano literature (there are other contenders like Islamey and Schuman's Toccata, but for sheer concentrated brilliance and technical demands, I pick Prokofiev, even over his Toccata). After a bumpy start, the 7-note theme is bounced around all octaves, sometimes in minor 9th octaves, accompanied by breathtaking runs and topped off by a double glissando. gary goldberg <76236.3302@compuserve.com>
