Miguel d'Andrade Gomes

1972 - Present
Miguel d'Andrade Gomes was born in Lisbon on February 21, 1972. He was surrounded by music throughout his childhood, as two of his siblings were great musicians.

At 15, he got his first guitar and that was the pivotal point in his musical career. In 1987, Gomes moved to Cascais where he went on to start your typical teenage garage band, composing and playing Rock, Funk and Jazz themes.

By 1990 he had already set up his own studio, which moved him even closer to the musical world. It wasn't unusual for him to work 12 hours straight, playing, recording and mixing. It was then that he discovered classical music. Using synthesizers, Gomes took his first steps composing classical music.

The big musical shift came when he went to University. The already extinct rock band gave way to a chamber orchestra, the "Estudantina" (musical group made out of male university students, playing popular and classical themes using acoustic instruments). As the founder and manager of this "Estudantina", Gomes could finally explore his composing skills. He had many hits, not only with the songs that he composed, but also as a solo artist.

In 1996, as he finished university, he dedicated himself strictly to composing classical music. Working with his computer and using a virtual scale, Gomes realised his wish of composing in the old style.

Due to the fact that he’d never had any formal training, Gomes keeps an open mind to all musical styles, finding his own niche from the Baroque to the classical.
