The First Annual Classical MIDI Sequencing Contest
is open for everyone world wide. The Classical MIDI Connection is an endeavor to provide the classical music enthusiast with an easy method of accessing MIDI sequences of classical music. You can browse the site and listen to any of the sequences available. While visiting you might also want to take advantage of some of the other features available in the CMC.
Great Contributors of Classical MIDIA series of pages dedicated to outstanding achievments in classical MIDI sequencing. More to come...
INSTRUCTIONSIn order to listen to the sequences, you must have a MIDI player associated with the .mid extension in your web browser. There are many MIDI players available, some of them are freely downloadable from the web. If you're having trouble playing the files on this site, I would highly recommend downloading the free Anvil Studio MIDI player / editor. It's far better than Windows Media Player or QuickTime for several reasons: it allows you to view and edit the notes and all MIDI data, and above all, it does work fine with all files at this site. Using Anvil Studio you can not only listen to the files but also save them, and create your own custom playlist. Anvil Studio is freeware, you can download the latest version from this website If you would like to save the files to your computer, please download the free .Due to security problems, the right-clik, "save target as" option in Internet Explorer will not work, so please use Firefox for direct downloading files. If you need any assistance, please check the F.A.Q. page or the MIDI Forum or contact the webmaster. MIDI files sound best using either GM compatible synthesizers, sound modules or wavetable soundcards. For more info on software and equipment, go to the MIDI Info Page An extensive list of sequencers, MIDI players, and other music software can be found at the MIDIWORLD Software Library If you would like to know more about MIDI, visit the MIDI Tutorials Page For buying and selling musical instruments, synthesizers, sound modules, sound cards and other MIDI hardware, the best place to start is the MIDI Marketplace This site is organized by the style periods of classical music. To access one of the libraries, simply click on the style period you wish to browse. Once there, you will find entries organized in alphabetical order by the composers' last names. If you are looking for the works of a particular composer, you have two options. Click on the appropriate letter of the alphabet in the left column. This will drop you down to the composer's last name. Click on that name and you will be taken to the library or page where the composer's works are located. Once there, use the alphabetical list at the top of the page to locate the composer. The second option is the Search Page, which will locate the composer for you. To listen to one of the sequences, click on the title of the selection you wish to hear. If you would like to download the sequence, click on the title, and save it from your MIDI player or sequencer. If you would like to leave comments, suggestions or corrections, you can email a message to me by clicking this address: http://www.midiworld.com/mw_frm.htm. Enjoy your visit! SPECIAL THANKSFaren Raborn for creating and maintaining this site till 1996.
Martin Weimer whose "Index of Classical Composers" has allowed for a much needed organized method of naming classical midi sequences.
Robert Finley whose examples of excellent sequencing technique have served as an education in sequencing as well as providing wonderful listening experiences. A collection of Mr. Finley's sequences are available in The Finley Connection. DISCLAIMEREvery attempt possible has been made to verify that the sequences contained in The Classical MIDI Connection are free from any copyright infringement. Those submitted by various individuals have been received and posted in good faith. There are those, however, who will attempt to take credit for work that is not their own.
