QUESTIONS
ANSWERS

  • What is MIDI?
If you're not familiar with MIDI, please visit the MIDI Basics and MIDI Glossary pages.
We also have a good selection of Recommended Books.
Any questions will be answered on the MIDI Forums feel free to ask.
Frequently Asked Questions will be posted here.

  • How to create a good MIDI sequence?
Contestants will find useful tips on how to create great MIDI files on
the Classical MIDI Sequencing Tutorials Page.

Please contact the webmaster if you need assistance with your contest entry
or any other issues related to the website.

  • What is the required MIDI format for contest entries?
The official entry must be a MIDI file in GM (General MIDI) format.
You may also submit an MP3 and a non-GM MIDI version.
    For example:
    1. You create the GM MIDI file
    2. Rearrange it to make use of your favorite synthesizer or sampler or VST/DXI plug-in sounds.
    3. Record the improved MIDI file into audio and convert it to MP3.
Now you have 3 files: GM MIDI, improved non-GM MIDI and MP3.
The GM file is your official entry. You may also choose to submit the MP3 version (it's actually recommended).
If you upload your MP3 please also include the MIDI file the MP3 was recorded from so we can verify that it was made form a MIDI sequence.
And last but not least: please don't forget to fill out the Entry Form.
We need the your name and email address, the file name, composer, title of the piece (including movement no. when applicable), and any optional notes.
Please contact the webmaster if you have any questions

  • Details on how to enter?
It's pretty simple and easy. First pick a classical piece you would like to create a MIDI sequence of.
It is recommended but not required to select something not included in the Classical MIDI Connection libraries.
If you need any advice or recommendation, please email me.
Create the MIDI sequence (please refer to the Required Format section of this page.
When you're done fill out the Entry Form.
Submitting the entry form will redirect you to the file upload page.
You can browse your computer for the file(s) you would like to upload (it's best to put the file(s) on your computer desktop for easy find, but you can browse to any other folder).
If you get any errors or have problems uploading, please contact the webmaster

    top

  • Can I submit multiple entries? Yes, there's no limit on the number of entries, you may submit as many files as you like.
Keep in mind, the contest will be judged by quality not quantity.

    top

  • Are corrections (re-submissions) allowed? Yes, you may submit corrected or improved versions of previous entries before the deadline: November 1, 2007.
Please indicate on the entry form if the files you're submitting are intended to replace older versions.

    top

  • May I participate as judge?
Yes, if you qualify. It means having some experience either as a sequencer of classical MIDI files or as a classical musician.
You must be willing to dedicate some of your time listening to contest entries and submot your vote and observations.
Of course if you are a judge you, your friends and family can not participate as contestants.
Please contact me if you are interested.
Judges are much appreciated but not paid. If you love classical music this is your chance to serve a good cause...
