"JOSEPH EST BIEN MARIE" French musicians in the baroque era published a great many arrangements of earlier traditional folk no‰ls, or Christmas songs. This sequence is a no‰l arranged by Nicolas Ch‚deville (1696 - 176?), titled "Joseph est bien mari‚". (The tune may be familiar if you've heard Charpentier's "Pastorale".) I did this MIDI arrangement using Cakewalk and Power Tracks Pro with an Ensoniq Soundscape Elite soundcard. NOTE: for those with a soundcard using the Yamaha OPL4 synth chip: the overall volume will sound very low. This is because Yamaha designed the "expression" controller #11 backwards, with 127 being loudest and 0 being quiet ... this is exactly opposite how it works for everybody else. The quickest fix here is to MUTE OR DELETE the "Mixer Track", which will wipe out any references to controller #11. Else, you can edit the values in this track to achieve the desired balance of instrument volumes. This sequence uses the default pitch bend range, so it should be playable even on the old SoundBlaster16 cards and clones ... though of course it's so much nicer on a wavetable card with effects!
