Karl F. Westermann
I was born in a village near Heidelberg (Germany) in 1945 and still live in this lovely area. During most of my professional life as an electronics engineer I was engaged in quality inspection of control systems. I got a basic musical education at high school and a first musical practice at the accordion club in my home village. The accordion then turned out to become my trusty companion for many years - playing waltz, polka, foxtrot or tango. Some examples are given below. But I ever enjoyed classical music too. Already as a young fellow I acquired a considerable collection of classical stereophonic vinyl records. After retiring from professional life a few years ago, I started singing in a church choir and participated in several oratorio performances. One day I incidentally snatched a CD with ballads of Carl Loewe. At once I had great pleasure in listening to this CD, and it animated me to sing along with the professional bass vocalist. Eventually I desired to sing such ballads alone with the wonderful piano accompaniment - especially those in which riding is a topic. Since there was no skillful pianist at my disposal, I searched the Internet for ‘karaoke’ offers thoroughly, but could not find anything suitable. However, I discovered that MIDI sequencing was an easy (but laborious) way to produce ambitious piano accompaniment of proper quality myself. The MIDIs which I published via Classical Midi Connection (CMC) are by-products; primary goal was to provide piano accompaniment for my own singing. Wind instrument tracks are included for the vocal parts so that visitors of CMC get an impression of the complete songs. In case you like my interpretations and want to use the MIDI sequences for your piano accompaniment, switch the vocal tracks to piano sound and diminish their main volumes, so that they become nearly inaudible; nevertheless the singer should still get sufficient guidance. Transpose the pitch to your convenience. Maybe some volumes (note velocities) have to be adjusted depending on the sound generator you are going to use. I would be pleased, if other singers were encouraged to go the same way, develop MIDI sequences of their favorite songs with great passion, and proudly publish their carefully elaborated products in the CMC.
